Karina Schmidt Receives Travel Award from Uplifting Athletes, Rare Disease Advocacy Organization

Congratulations to Karina Schmidt, a 2nd-year PhD student in the UW M3D Program in the Simpson Lab on receiving a $1400 travel award from Uplifting Athletes, a rare disease advocacy organization, through their Researcher Connection Program.​Karina Schmidt

This award will support Karina’s travel to the IPCC Symposium on May 7 to interact with researchers focused on rare skin diseases targeting keratins. She will also present her own work on a new model of epidermolysis bullosa as a mini-symposium talk at the SID 2025 Annual Meeting in San Diego directly after.  

Congratulations, Karina, on this well-deserved recognition—wishing you safe travels and success as you share your  work with the rare disease research community.  ​
