Latest results from Simpson Lab presented at ESDR meeting
Dr. Simpson and PhD student Jessica Ayers traveled to Heidelberg, Germany to share their latest work at the European Society for Dermatological Research annual meeting. Jessica Ayers won a Young Investigator Collegialtity Award to present a new model of Darier disease that used CRISPR gene editing to insert a patient-derived variant into a human epidermal tissue model with the goal of enabling a personalized medicine approach to finding new treatments for this rare genetic skin disease. During a plenary session, Dr. Simpson presented a new project led by Research Scientist Dr. Thomas Vincent in collaboration with Dr. Leo Wang and MD/PhD student Harry Dang at the University of Pennsylvania. The group is testing whether lipid nanoparticles (LNPs) can be used for gene therapy in Hailey-Hailey disease.
