The Simpson Lab was awarded a $10,000 grant from the UC Irvine Skin Biology Resource Center (supported by NIH/NIAMS). In collaboration with Daniel Kuppers at Fred Hutch, we aim to build a novel human tissue model of the rare genetic skin blistering disorder epidermolysis bullosa (EB) simplex, an orphan disease that lacks any FDA-approved therapy. This project is led by PhD student Karina Schmidt, a pre-doctoral fellow supported by the UW Institute for Stem Cell and Regenerative Medicine.
